Amidst Front Office Changes; Trade Rumours Swirl

2012-05-13

In a season that as supposed to be one of success and celebration in the city of Riga, has quickly taken a turn for concern and worry of what will happen beyond the current season. Although Riga currently is tied in the series with heavy favorites Helsinki, fans can't help but wonder how quickly this team will be blown up after the playoffs are finished. With Pajari, Boomchenko, Bjorkman, Guite, and Braun all on their way out after this season that only leaves Gunnar Axelsson, RJ Stafford, and Ansgar Snijider in the fold. Could Riga attempt to stay competitive with losing all of these players, sure but it would be more than likely that they lose out on a playoff spot to a fast rising Davos team and Vasteras who has plenty of talent despite their struggles this season. With Braun, Boomchenko, Guite, and Bjorkman all being lost for nothing; Riga has to get the most trade value for the current players that still have years left on their contracts. That includes Season 25 1st overall selection, Ansgar Snijider who will likely fetch by far the most of any of the other players on the Riga roster. Because of this factor and Riga's need for picks, GM Kyle Dowd will likely step down in order to allow Riga to get a head start on their rebuild and obtain the picks they lost in the Braun deal. What makes Snijider unique is that he still has 2 more seasons before he even hits deprecation, which makes him valuable to both teams competing now & teams who are building towards the future. Because of this, he will likely fetch a lot of interest from most of the teams in the league. Teams that have expressed interest in Snijider have been rumored to be Davos & Seattle thus far, but that could change once playoffs wind down and the GM change is official. But first, a replacement for Kyle Dowd needs to be found before Snijider can be moved out of Riga. Modify message
